Camilla Carper and Janelle Abbott were friends first. Now in Seattle and Los Angeles, they document their friendship with FEMAIL, a collaboration through USPS. They mail the garments back and forth, adding and subtracting, arguing and playing, remembering and trying to forget. The results are equal parts aesthetics, construction, and emotion. And the most fascinating (integral) element, is the cost formula, to which the consumer is transparently privy. See for yourself, the true cost of what it takes to produce a garment with four hands.
HERE'S HOW THE FORMULA WORKS
T($50)+M(MS(#X10%(T))+MH)+L(2)+A($25)+/-F(15%)
T (Time spent as represented through 'layers') +$10 each
M (Material Value) = MS (Sentimental) +MH (Historical)
MS (Rate emotional connection 1-10x10% sum of T)
MH (Each item valued at $.50–$5)
*L (Likability—we would keep it but...) + $50
A (As Seen On—value added to work featured in print or show) + $25 per exposure
**F (Frustration level) +/- 15%*
*Individually assessed; sliding scale
**Optional
