In Korean, danbi directly translates to sweet rain. Some lines are refreshingly simple and just like that post-drought rain, they too serve a more functional purpose. An experiment in wearability, the Los Angeles-based brand is spearheaded by Central Saint Martins alum, Lisa Danbi Park. Curiosity and playfulness give structure to the form, a much-appreciated rupture from the usual outputs of such a rigorous academic setting. While expert-cut mesh and paintings-as-sublimation prints lead the material. Yet, a certain je ne sais quoi remains at the brand's core that only a Cali-girl can emanate. After all, the collection is modeled after the construction of the beach bikini–strings, ties, and anchoring support–intended to be pulled from the back of your car's clothes pile after a long day at the beach. Sometimes you need to fry and get lost in the ocean a bit to really find yourself.
